Manawatu-Foxton
Senior A defeated in first of the season by 22 runs.
Winning
the toss Levin Old Boys elected to bat first against Manawatu-Foxton
at Donnelly Park No. 1 artificial pitch. Old Boys batted through
their allotted 50 overs to make 239 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Bowling for Man./Fox David Schlup claimed 3-29 of his 10 overs,
Tim Sayer 2-38 off 10 overs and Marty O'Brien 1-59 of his 10 overs.
Scott Rogers, Josh Parsons and Steven Thomas also bowled but were
unsuccessful in claiming any wickets.
Chasing 4.78 runs per over for
victory Man./Fox started well with an opening partnership of 90
runs between Josh Parsons and Captain Scott Rogers with Rogers
LBW for 46 after 21 overs. Another partnership for the 3rd wicket
between Parsons and Hayden Marshall took the score to 162 for
the loss of 3 wickets after 39 overs. Wickets fell at regular
intervals and it was left to Tim Sayer and the tailed batsmen
Marty O'Brien and Perry Thomas to get Man./Fox close to the Old
Boys total being all out after 49.5 overs for 217 runs to lose
by 22 runs.
A good effort for the first of the season and the team
should only improve in the future. A disappointing feature of
the Man./Fox batting was the three run outs. |
