A
full days cricket was possible at Manawatu College as the rain
did not arrive until late in the day and this enabled Manawatu-Foxton
to complete an 8 wicket win against Weraroa on the artificial
pitch at Manawatu College.
Tom Thomas won the toss and asked Weraroa to bat first and after
45 overs Weraroa were 202 for 9 wickets. Marty O'Brien, Wayne
Blackbourn, Jono Van Echten and Evan Smith all claimed 2 wickets
each and Tony Tatana picked up the other wicket to fall. Haydon
Bramwell taking 3 catches behind the stumps.
Manawatu-Foxton started positively with Stacey Thomas and Haydon
Bramwell scoring freely until Bramwell was struck in the face
and retired hurt. Steven Thomas made a quick 7 and departed bowled.
Stacey Thomas was joined by Tony Tatana playing in his 200th game
for the club, only the sixth person in the history of the club
to do so and only the 10th person to have played more than 200
innings for the club. Tatana batted well to stroke 1 six and 9
fours before being caught for 56 runs. Bramwell returned to the
crease from his injury and quickly set about the bowling to be
66 not out with 9 fours. Stacey Thomas batting through the innings
to be 43 not out at the close, 205 for 2 wickets after 32.3 overs.
A win to Manawatu-Foxton by 8 wickets.
